Placebos and PrEP: Challenges in HIV Research

The main presenters of this discussion were Dr Kevin O’Reilly from WHO and Professor Jean-Michel Molina, the project principal investigator of the ANRS-funded Ipergay Trial.  Dr O’Reilly presented the current evidence on PrEP, whereas Prof Molina presented the Ipergay Trial.  Comments on ethical considerations and views from the community were made by UNAIDS colleagues Jason Sigurdson and Kate Thomson, respectively. Dr. Stefano Vella from the L'Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) in Rome chaired the discussion for UNAIDS. The programme of the discussion follows:
